Key Insight 1

I have been creative person my entire life, I was very fond of art, drawing and painting during my childhood and teenage as I grew studies became the only important thing and all my hobbies didn’t get enough time. So, during my Fall 2020 semester I decided to take and Art history class (ART106), it was history of western art. As I was already very interested in creating artwork and learning artwork, I thought this class would be great and I would get to know some new things, and I did learn some completely new things that I never heard about. That class taught me that there is something artist about everything we see in our lives, we might not notice it unless we know about it. I learned about different artists and the different style of art they used during different eras. The most fascinating and interesting artwork I learned was about the quadrature style, that was my favorite. Quadrature is Illusionistic architectural painting arrives in a big way during the Renaissance, mainly seen on the ceilings of churches. It depicts that all the objects and creatures shown on the ceiling are looking down form the heaven (or the sky). I saw many examples in the textbook and class lecture that gave me better understanding of this style and I could identify it easily if I see it anywhere.

I went to a cultural trip from OSP to the Biltmore house in Asheville, NC. We did a house tour, and I was amazed by seeing the artwork about what I learned in my art class. I saw the quadrature style of artwork on the ceilings of some rooms in the Biltmore house. As I had learned about this, I was easily able to recognize this and connect it back to my class lectures. I saw the example of quadrature art style in the library, it had those effect that makes it look like clouds and people sitting over the edge and looking down form the heaven.

It’s just been almost 3 years I have been in the United States and I plan on traveling and visiting each and every 50 states along with the union territories. I feel there’s some history behind every place and how artistically it was constructed, I will use the principles and different styles of art in my further life to discover and recognize it and connect it back to what I learned.
